A NEW LEAF: BLUELEAF THEATRE'S SCRATCH NIGHT
ABOUT
A New Leaf is our company's scratch night that we use to develop early drafts of scripts from writers. Named 'A New Leaf' , in homage to our previous company name Blueleaf Theatre, new writing is at the heart of Portsmouth Road's identity as a company alongside supporting emerging artists. We run the event two or three times a year taking 5 bold and exciting new scripts, pairing them with the brightest emerging directing and acting talent in London and putting them on a London stage.
WHAT MAKES OUR NIGHT DIFFERENT FROM OTHER SCRATCH NIGHTS?
We believe in taking a supportive and hands on approach with our scratch nights making sure all artists are supported throughout the process. Our aim is that this is the start of a long journey for these scripts and hope these events build relationships between writers, directors and actors which lead to future projects for all. We always invite industry professionals from venues and producing companies as well as independent producers who are interested in programming new work to help artists develop their own network and get potential feedback.
OUR PROCESS
We have open submissions for A New Leaf and there are no boundaries in terms of theme or style, we usually open submissions 3 months before the event.
Once we have picked our five scripts from our open submissions we like to meet with writers to get a feel for what they want out of the piece and pair them with the most suitable director. We then look to help the director and writer cast the production drawing from our own contacts and sometimes running open auditions.
HOW DO I REGISTER AN INTEREST IN TAKING PART?
WRITERS
We will always announce our projects well in advance so writers will have plenty of time to submit work, this would be done through our A New Leaf Submissions page.
DIRECTORS & ACTORS
We will announce a call-out for these after we have announced the chosen scripts.
